NHFF's 2009 Granny Winners!

"That Evening Sun" wins NH Film Festival Grand Jury Award. Nearly 9,000 attend 80 independent films.

After four days of independent film that drew nearly 9,000 attendees to some sold-out screenings and talk-of-the-town, standing-room-only after-parties, NHFF announced 2009 Granny Award winners during closing ceremonies Sun., Oct. 18. Hundreds of VIP attendees, artists, and industry icons flooded the independent film festival's fabulous after-parties and VIP suites at Flatbread Co., Portsmouth Gas Light Co., the One Hundred Club, and Pesce Blue. Attendees included actors Brett Cullen and Ann Cusack, and Hollywood producer Mark Urman.

NH Day & Night Winners Announced!

"Crooked Lane" & "Mito-Kids" Honored.

NH Film Festival kicked off Thursday with a packed house at The Music Hall to see Marc Dole's "Mito-Kids: Documenting Life" win NH Documentary Film of the Year and Chase Bailey's "Crooked Lane" win NH Film of the Year. Both awards were determined by the NH Jury. 

NHFF 2009 Screenplay Competition Judge and renowned playwright Ernest Thompson also was awarded the Van McLeod Award for his contributions to the state's film or television industry. Named for the current commissioner of NH's Dept. of Cultural Resources, the award honored NH resident Thompson for his long, Oscar-winning career, including "On Golden Pond."

2009 Official Selections

More than 80 Independent Films including "Food, Inc.," "The Burning Plain," and "Serious Moonlight."

After receiving more than 700 submissions this year, the New Hampshire Film Festival judges are pleased to announce a roster of 80 accepted films for what we expect to be NHFF's largest turnout so far, Oct. 15 – Oct. 18 in downtown Portsmouth.

Headlining films include "Serious Moonlight" with Meg Ryan, Kristen Bell, Justin Long and Timothy Hutton; "Paper Heart" featuring Michael Cera of "Juno" and "Arrested Development;" and "Mystery Team," a comedy shot in New Hampshire from Manchester filmmaker Dan Eckman.
